Indiana Drivers Education Learners Permit
The Indiana drivers education learners permit is issued to Indiana drivers license applicants and its main purpose is to be able to complete a drivers education class. In order to obtain the Indiana drivers education learners permit you are not required to take the written test at the BMV, however, there are other requirements that you must meet.
Indiana Drivers Education Permit Requirements
In order to be eligible for the permit, you must:
- Be 15 to 16 years old
- Provide Indiana proof of identity and dateof birth
- Have your legal guardian sign the financial responsibility form
- Present proof of enrollment for a state-approved drivers education course
Once you are awarded with a drivers education learners permit, you will need to start your drivers education classes. Please note that you may not practice driving alone, you need to have a licensed instructor or a legal guardian with you at all times. The drivers education permit contains other restrictions you have to observe. Failure to observe the restrictions will result in the revocation of a permit.
Applying for Regular Indiana Learners Permit
When you turn 16, you will be required to apply for a regular Indiana learners permit. In order to do that you will need to go to the BMV and complete the written permit test there. You may want to prepare for the test with the Indiana practice permit tests.
