If you want to get a drivers license in Kentucky, you will have to take the KY permit test that is administered by the Kentucky State Police License Examiner. The 2013 Kentucky permit test was designed to assess the applicant's knowledge of the state driving rules and safe driving practices. The passing score for the Kentucky drivers permit test is 80%, however you should aim at 100% on your Kentucky practice permit test.

Kentucky Permit Test Questions

The questions you will encounter on the drivers permit test come directly from the Kentucky driver's manual and cover such areas as the state driving rules, road signs and traffic regulations. Taking the Kentucky Permit Test

You must be at least 16 years old. You will need to visit the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in your country of residence to start the application. Please make sure to bring the following documents with you for your Kentucky DMV permit test:

  • Social security card
  • Birth certificate

According to the Kentucky graduated license law, applicants who are under 18 years of age will also need to bring the No Pass/No Driver form. The form can be obtained from your high school and it shows your attendance. If your attendance is found inadequate, you may be declined the driving privilege. Drivers who are younger than 18 must also have a parent or legal guardian present at the time of the application.

While at the office, you will need to fill in the application for Kentucky drivers license. The documents will be verified by the Court's clerk and if the applicant is found eligible for the permit, he is directed to the Kentucky State Police License Examiner who will administer the tests. You will be subjected to a vision screening test and the drivers permit exam.

If you successfully pass the test, you will be granted your official Kentucky learners permit.

If you fail the test, you can return the next day to retake it. You are allowed 6 attempts at the permit test, if you fail 6 times you will need to wait at least 180 days before taking the drivers permit test again.
