Texas Parent Taught Drivers Education Class 106 - TDTSEA

Texas parent taught drivers education course 106 is offered by the Texas Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association, which is a non-profit organization that aims at promoting driver and traffic safety education for all people. This drivers education class is offered only as a book course, so if you are looking for an online program, this is not the course for you. Since this one of the approved Texas parent taught driver ed courses, you will have to meet all parent taught requirements before you can start the program - that is, submit the application for parent taught drivers education (dl 92) to the DPS and wait until you receive a DPS parent taught drivers education package before starting the program. Since parent taught course 106 is mailed to you, delivery of course materials will take some time, you should order the course at least a few days before the date when you plan on starting the program.

Texas Parent Taught Drivers Ed Requirements

Parent taught drivers education classes are not called “parent taught” for no reason. Although you can obtain lesson plans and guides from commercial driving school, the parent still serves as an instructor and plays a very important role in the licensing process. That's why the Texas Department of Public Safety sets certain requirements before the parents who plan to instruct their kids on how to drive.

The first step of the process is filling in the application form DL 92. The form can be downloaded from the DPS website, you will need to print it out and mail it to the DPS along with a $20 check or money order. This $20 application fee is non-refundable, so if your application is rejected, you will not get your money back.

Upon receiving the application, the DPS reviews the driving record of the instructing parent and if the parent meets the requirements, the DPS mails out a DPS parent taught drivers education package. The package contains the forms required for obtaining a drivers permit and a drivers license, it also has the official Texas drivers handbook enclosed. At this point, you are good to sign up and start taking one of the Texas parent taught drivers education courses.

Please make sure to submit your application and wait until you receive the package before signing up for any Texas drivers ed courses. If you are not approved for parent taught education, you may end up wasting your money. Plus, the DPS requirements do not allow you to start the program before the package is received, so you will have to redo everything all over.

TDTSEA Parent Taught Drivers Ed #106

TDTSEA, which stands for Texas Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association, is a non-profit organization that offers one the state-approved parent taught courses in Texas. The course which is offered by TDTSEA is listed at #106 at the DPS website and it will fulfill drivers ed requirements for obtaining a Texas drivers license just like any other approved class.

At the moment, course 106 is offered only as a book course, there is no option for you to take the class online or order a set of Cds/DVDs and do an interactive course. This has both a number of cons a pros that you will need to consider before purchasing course 106.

The first thing you should probably think about is how involving will this class be for a young driver. Online drivers ed courses have a number of ways to interest prospective clients - there are videos, games and various interactive elements that were designed to keep youngsters in front of the computer. The book course lacks these elements and consists mostly of reading materials. If this is your preferred way of studying, than you should not worry about it.

Delivery time is another issue. Texas parent taught course 106 is mailed via UPS ground service, plus it takes some time to receive and process the order. According to the TDTSEA website, it may take 7-10 business days for processing and packaging. If you add another week on top of that for delivery, you have almost three weeks from the time when you place your order till the day when you can start the course. With an online course, you can start the same day you sign up, provided you already have your parent taught package.

On the other hand, this course is probably a good idea for those who do not have a stable Internet connection. If downloading data from the Internet is an issue, the book course is your choice, as everything you need is included in the package.

Course 106 features concurrent method of instruction. What this means is that classroom hours and behind the wheel lessons are mixed together. This is probably a good option for those who want to obtain their Texas learners permit a little sooner, as you only need to complete the first six hours of lessons before you can get a permit. Those who want to complete all classroom hours before being tested at the DPS should probably look for a parent taught course that features block method of instruction.
