Practice Permit Test NJ Question 8

Proper communication between drivers is crucial for safe driving and our vehicles are superbly equipped with devices that make this communication easy and convenient. Questions on communication between drivers always appear on the NJ permit test and we could not omit such questions from our practice permit test NJ sample quiz. Turn indicators, headlights, stop lights - all these things are part of your communication set and they work together to help other drivers understand your actions better. When these devices fail, your car becomes very unpredictable for everyone else and that is why having an emergency back up is very important. Hand signals are this back up, you can use them even if your car electrical system is shot and you are being towed. Even if you never plan on driving a vehicle with none of the indicators working, you must still memorize the hand signals as you may encounter a driver using them and you must understand him correctly.

Permit Practice Test Answers

Answer A to the permit practice test NJ sample quiz tells us that the driver is turning right. It would definitely be much more convenient for other drivers if he just went ahead and pointed to the right, but then he may not be able to reach the window on the right side of the vehicle and if he simply points to the right inside of the vehicle, no one will see him. At the same time, if I saw someone pointing down, I definitely wouldn't think that the person is trying to turn right. Slow down, possibly stop, but not go to the right.

Answer B to the practice permit test NJ sample question suggests that the driver is turning left. This is a bit closer than answer A, but then why wouldn't the driver simply point to the left? This would definitely be more logical, as he would point in the direction he's about to take.

Answer C to the NJ practice permit test question tells us that the driver is about to do a U-turn. If you think about this, there is really no need for a separate hand signal for U-turns, as making a U-turn is very close to making a right turn and vehicles behind the one making the maneuver should treat it the same way.

Answer D to the New Jersey practice permit test question tells us that the driver is about to stop. So far, this definitely looks like the best answer. The driver is pointing to the ground announcing his intent to bring the vehicle to a full stop.

Answer To The NJ Practice Permit Test Question

The correct answer to this sample question is D - the driver is signaling that he is about to stop. The official NJ drivers handbook has more information on hand signals, however if you want to learn the basics, it's very simple. We already know that we can't point to the right, so we do the next best thing - we point upwards when we are turning right. Making a left turn is easy, you just point in the direction of the turn, which is left. Finally, if we want to stop, we point to the ground.

Not too hard, is it? These are the only hand signals that you need to know to be able to pass your NJ permit test successfully. While we hope that your vehicle will always stay in top shape and you will never get to use these signals on the road, make sure to memorize them before you go for the knowledge test at the DMV!
