Louisiana Drivers Ed
Although not every license applicant is required to take a Louisiana drivers ed class, it may still be a good idea to do so. Louisiana drivers education classes will prepare you for your drivers license exam and teach you the safe driving techniques that may save your life one day.
Louisiana Graduated Drivers System
The graduated drivers license system in Louisiana is quite similar to that currently in place in many other states. The main reason why the state employs this program is because teenagers have the highest crash rates among all age groups and in many case, lack of education and driving experience is to blame. This is why the OMV in Louisiana makes the drivers education classes compulsory for license applicants who are under 17 years of age.
Drivers Permit Application
Before you can be issued with the Louisiana learners permit, the OMV will ask you to take the written permit test. If you already completed the drivers education class, you are probably well familiar with the driving rules and road signs and you should not have any problems passing the test.
Those who have not taken the drivers education class are strongly advised to do so. However, if you decide to skip on drivers ed, you can prepare for the permit exam by reading the drivers manual and taking some Louisiana practice tests to get familiar with the questions that may be asked on your exam.
Drivers Ed Classes
When choosing between the drivers education programs you may have located, the first questions you should ask must be - is this drivers ed program approved by the OMV?. If the class is not certified by the state, it's a waste of time and money for you. You may check the list of approved drivers education programs at the OMV website.
17 to 18
There is some confusion as to age groups that are required to take the drivers education classes before they can be issued with a drivers license. In Louisiana, you have to take a 36-hours drivers ed class if you are under 17 years of age. Those who are 17 to 18 are only required to complete a 6 hour drivers training program. Applicants who are over 18 do not have to complete any educational programs.
