Indiana Teen Driver Changes
On Tuesday, the Indiana state Senate committee passed a bill that places new restrictions on the underage drivers. The new teen restrictions have the potential to save lives.
If the bill is enacted, the following restrictions would be enforced:
- Indiana drivers license holders who are under 18 will be prohibited from using cell phones while driving
- The minimum age for obtaining the Indiana Learners Permit will be 15 and ½. The minimum license age will be 17 or 16 and ½ if a drivers education class is taken.
- The minimum amount of supervised driving will be 50 hours.
The restrictions are similar to the ones currently in place in most of the states that support the graduated drivers license system. Such restrictions may force more driving practice onto the teens and ensure that they get more driving experience before they hit the roads.
