Why Take Drivers Ed
As of January 2007, all underage drivers who are looking to obtain their Georgia drivers license must complete s state approved drivers education class, sometimes also referred to as the Joshua’s law class. The class must satisfy the requirements of the Joshua’s law, which is a variation of the graduated drivers license program.
In addition to taking the drivers ed class, teen applicants also need to complete a minimum of 40 hours of supervised driving with a parent. Driving lessons can be performed according to the instructions provided in the Parent Teen Driving Guide.
Please note that one of the compulsory requirements for obtaining Georgia drivers license is school attendance. You will be required to obtain the certificate of attendance from your high school and present it at the DDS when you are taking your driving test.
Drivers Ed In High School

The classes are approved by the state and satisfy all the requirements, however you do not have to restrict yourself to this type of instruction. If you are not taking drivers ed in high school, you can always take drivers education in a private driving school or online through the internet.

In fact, it is even better for you to start the program before you get your permit as the information contained in the class will be of great help to those studying for the Georgia permit test. Many online drivers ed classes also include Georgia practce permit tests that can help you identify the topics you may need to study a little more.
Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP)
One of the additional requirements set before the drivers license applicants is completion of the alcohol and drug awareness program. The class can be taken at high school, or, in case you missed out, you can catch upon the class at one of the DDS locations.
