Tennessee Drivers Education
Although Tennessee does not require every license applicant to go through a drivers education program, you are still advised to do so. Completing a state-approved Tennessee driver ed course will make you a safer, more educated driver and can also make you eligible for the insurance discount.
Graduated Drivers License
The graduated drivers license in Tennessee is very similar to that in other states. It includes multiple stages of obtaining a drivers license - the learners permit, intermediate restricted license and intermediate unrestricted license - for all license applicants who are under 18 years of age. At the moment, the GDL system in Tennessee does not incorporate drivers education classes, however, this may change at some point as more states choose to make drivers ed compulsory for all teenage license applicants.
Why Take Drivers Ed
The main reason why anyone should want to participate in a drivers education program is because it is bound to make you a safer driver. Nationwide statistics show that driver's ed graduates are less likely to be involved in a traffic accident, something every license applicant should consider.
If you need more convincing, you can think about the Tennessee permit test that you have to take before you can be issued with your permit. Most of the applicants fail the exam the first time they take it, they fail even before they walk into the DOS as they do not study for the exam. The knowledge test is not hard, you just need to prepare for it and there is no better way to do that than taking a Tennessee driver ed program. The course will teach you everything you need to know for the exam and make sure you pass with flying colors.
If you decide to skip on drivers ed, you should still use other sources of information to prepare for the exam. Grab yourself a copy of the DOS drivers handbook and take some practice tests before you go in for the real exam.
Finally we come to something that pushes most students away - the price. Drivers education courses vary in price, but you are looking into a few hundred dollars. Some people think the price is too high to be paid for the class that is not even required by the DOS, but you should definitely reconsider this. As mentioned above, drivers ed graduated are considered to be safer drivers and insurance companies take this into account when calculating your premium. In the end, the insurance discount you will receive will offset the high course price.
Drivers Ed Classes
If you made up your mind and would like to take a drivers education course, you may start calling your local driving schools. Not every commercial school offers the class, smaller school tend to concentrate more on driving lessons. However, if you call up 2-3 schools, you should be able to find the one that offers a driver ed program.
