Ohio Practice Temps Test Question 114

Today we are looking at one of the Ohio practice temps test questions that deal with child safety and stopping for a school bus. There are many different situations you can find yourself in: when you are on a residential road and the school bus has stop on one of the opposite lanes, on a divided highway, in a school zone. Depending on the type of the road you are on and the direction you are traveling in, your actions may be different. Since there are Ohio permit test questions that cover stopping for a school bus, we could not omit this question from our practice Ohio temps test either!

Sample Temps Test Question

“WHEN TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY DIVIDED INTO FOUR TRAFFIC LANES, WHICH VEHICLES ARE REQUIRED TO STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS THAT HAS STOPPED TO UNLOAD CHILDREN?”

A. Only vehicles approaching the rear of the bus traveling in the same direction as the bus
B. All vehicles approaching the bus from either direction
C. No one is required to stop unless children are in view
D. All vehicles may pass the bus after providing an audible signal

If you are not sure what the answer to this question is, we advise that you look up the answer in the official Ohio driving test book which is available on the BMV website absolutely free of charge. The book covers all Ohio permit test questions and has plenty of information that even seasoned drivers will find useful. We advise that you print the book out and keep it with you up until the point when you pass your Ohio driving test. Remember to go over the book at least once to refresh your memory before you take the driving test, it's a common misconception that you will only be tested on your ability to control the vehicle, while in fact you are also tested on your knowledge of the state driving rules. Even after you pass the test, you could throw a copy of the book into the trunk and refer to it whenever you encounter a road sign you don't recognize or find yourself musing about a legal speed limit for the residential area.

Ohio Temps Test Answers

Answer A to the Ohio practice temps test question suggests that only vehicles approaching the rear of the bus traveling in the same direction as the bus when traveling on a highway divided into four traffic lanes have to stop when the bus has stopped to unload children. This sounds reasonable.

Answer B to the temps practice test states that all vehicles approaching the bus from either direction are required to stop. This does not sound right, since it is highly unlikely that children will start crossing a four-lane highway and thus vehicles traveling in the opposite direction are not required to stop.

Answer C to the practice temps test Ohio question tells us that no one is required to stop unless children are in view. This actually goes against all logic: vehicles are required to stop exactly because you may not see a child that will run onto the road after exiting the bus, since he will be obscured by the bus itself.

Answer D to the Ohio temps practice test states that all vehicles may pass the bus after providing an audible signal. If all vehicles start honking the horn while passing a school bus, it will definitely create a lot of noise, but will it actually prevent kids from running onto the road? Sometimes a loud noise may scare a person into action and it may actually force the child to run instead of stopping him. It is much safer to stop and wait until the bus starts moving again or the driver signals you to pass.

Correct Answer to The Temps Test

The correct answer to this Ohio temps test question is A:

“WHEN TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY DIVIDED INTO FOUR TRAFFIC LANES, ONLY VEHICLES APPROACHING THE REAR OF THE BUS TRAVELING IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE BUS ARE REQUIRED TO STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS THAT HAS STOPPED TO UNLOAD CHILDREN”

Make sure you memorize this simple rule as it may save someone's life some day. Children may behave in a very unpredictable manner and you are always accountable for their actions. If you find yourself in a situation described above and you are traveling in the opposite direction, it is still a good idea to slow down and watch out for children. There is no need to stop, as it may impede other traffic, but slowing down is warranted.
