Montana Drivers Ed - Montana Drivers Education
Montana Drivers Ed
Although Montana MVD does not require every drivers license applicant to go through the drivers education program, it is still mandatory for applicants who are under 16 years of age. Other applicants may still find Montana drivers education courses beneficial as it’s a good way to learn driving from the professionals.
Montana Graduated Drivers
The driver’s ed course is part of the Montana graduated drivers license system. The GDL system is a set of laws that aims at reducing the number of crashes among the teen drivers. Although driver’s education is a key part of the program, it is also complimented by an extended permit holding period and compulsory supervised driving hours.
Drivers Ed Testing
Before you can be issued with the Montana drivers permit, the MVD requires you to take the permit exam. If you are between 14 1/2 and 16, you will be required to enroll in a driver’s ed program before taking the permit test. If you are older than 16, you do not have to be enrolled in the traffic education program, but you may still wish to do so in order to prepare for your knowledge exam.
Looking for a different way to prepare? Check out the Montana drivers handbook. It is given out by the Montana MVD and is the most current set of the state driving rules. If you find the need to test yourself, please refer to some practice drivers tests.
Drivers Ed Curriculum
Montana drivers education classes commonly include both the classroom instruction hours and the actual behind the wheel experience. When you take the class, you will learn such things as:
- Rules of the Road
- Road and Traffic Signs
- Basic Car Inspection
- Drug and Alcohol Awareness
When you get to the driving portion of the driver’s education class, you will be able to apply the skills you learned in the classroom, the skills that will further be polished by the supervised driving period that you need to take with your parents. By the time you get to applying for your Montana driver's license, you will be quite an accomplished driver.
