Practice Test Answers

Answer A to the Massachusetts practice permit test question tells us that a solid white line marks the right edge of the roadway. While this is not a full answer, it is correct, because a solid white line can be used for such purpose. Since this statement is correct, we are not going to select the answer.

Answer B to the MA permit practice test tells us that solid white lines cannot be used to separate two lanes of traffic going in opposite directions. This statement is also true, as in Massachusetts, white lines are reserved for separating traffic that is going in the same direction. Yellow lines are usually used to separate traffic going in opposite directions.

Answer C to the Massachusetts permit practice test tells us that a solid white line cannot be crossed under any circumstances. While this may seem correct at first, this is actually a trick answer. According to current Massachusetts road rules, you MAY cross a solid white line if you are doing so to avoid danger (for example, you may need to cross it to avoid hitting someone).

Answer D to the practice permit test MA sample question suggest that you can cross a broken white line when changing lanes. This is true as broken white lines are used to separate two lanes traveling in the same direction and you may cross it to change lanes whenever it is safe to do so.

Correct Answer To Massachusetts Practice Question

Since the sample question asked us to select all statements that are not true, the correct answer to the question is C:

“A solid white line cannot be crossed under any circumstances”

This statement is incorrect as you may cross this line to avoid a traffic accident or any other danger to yourself or others on the road. Of course, while doing so, you must make sure that you changing lanes will not cause danger to anyone else.

One important point we wants to demonstrate with this practice question is the wording that may be used on the real Massachusetts permit test. The initial question is asking you to select ALL statements that are not true. This immediately leads you to believe that there is more than one incorrect statement in the question, it works on subconscious level. This is why it is very important that you really know the rules and don't fall for tricks like that. Remember, even if the question is asking you to select ALL correct or incorrect answers, it does not necessarily mean that there will be more than one correct option.
