Apply for Kentucky Learners Permit

Submitting an application for a Kentucky learners permit is the first step towards your driving license, no matter how old you are. Having a driving permit in possession gives you the opportunity to practice driving before you take the road test. The process of applying for a driver's permit in Kentucky is age-dependent, since teen permit applicants are required to meet graduated license requirements. The learner's permit application procedure will require you to take a written permit test, so you may want to read the permit handbook or take a prep course before filing your application.

Kentucky Drivers Test

Every first-time license applicant in Kentucky is required to pass a driving test administered by the State Police Department. You have to be no younger than 16 years of age and must have held a drivers permit for the required period before you can take the Kentucky drivers test. The road skills exam is a complete assessment of your driving ability: your control over the vehicle, your knowledge of driving rules and safe driving practices. There is only one way to pass the drivers license test in Kentucky the first time you take it and that is practice - practice as much time as you can before you go down to the DMV for your driving test appointment.

Kentucky Drivers License Endorsements

In most situations, drivers license endorsements are used for granting you additional driving privileges without having you to apply for a different type of drivers license. Most of the Kentucky driver's license endorsements apply to commercial drivers licenses and thus won't be useful to those who currently hold a regular class C license. However, there are exceptions to this trend, such as a motorcycle endorsement. A motorcycle endorsement can be added to any regular drivers license.

Kentucky Drivers License Restrictions

A number of different drivers license restrictions exist in Kentucky. In fact, there are a few types of license restrictions out there. First, there are intermediate license restrictions that must be observed by teenagers who passed their driving test and currently hold an intermediate drivers license. These license restrictions are temporary and are eliminated once the licensee graduates to a full driver license. Then there are also restrictions that are placed onto your Kentucky driver license due to a health condition you may have or a limitation of your driving skill. If you have questions regarding a specific Kentucky driver license restriction code, you can always turn to the DMV and they will be able to answer that question.
